# Single-crystal ice microfibers

In collaboration with researchers at the University of California of Berkeley, professor Tong Limin's team at Zhejiang University created single-crystal ice microfibers at a temperature of -50 degrees Celsius, which can serve as an optional material for making optical fibers. 

According to the scientists' experiment, the created single-crystal ice microfibers, with diameters ranging from 10 micrometers to less than 800 nanometers, are elastic, which can bend up to 10.9% – almost the theoretical limit of ice flexibility. 

Tong Limin believes that the results of this study will expand people's understanding of ice and inspire people to carry out research on ice-based optical fiber.
