Wealth.X.com, the world's leading ultra high net worth intelligence provider, jointly with Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS), has released its latest billionaire census, revealing the details of the global billionaire population: by region, country, city, gender, source of wealth, value of their social graph and philanthropic interests.

According to the report, the world's billionaire population now totals around 2,170, with a combined net worth of US$6.5 trillion. During the time period from July 2012 to June 2013, the number of billionaires has increased by 0.5 percent and their total wealth has grown by 5.3 percent. The average wealth of all the billionaires comes to US$3 billion.

Self-made billionaires account for 60 percent of the population, 20 percent have inherited their wealth and another 20 percent have partially inherited and partially made their own fortunes.

Although 87 percent of billionaires are male, the average wealth of female billionaires is slightly higher than that of the male, US$3.2 billion and US$3.0 billion respectively.

The number of billionaires in Asia totals at 508, with a year-on-year growth of 3.7 percent, the fastest in the world. Its total billionaire wealth has increased by 13 percent. The report forecasts that the Asia's billionaire population is expected to exceed that of North America in five years.

The report also indicates that the United States remains the billionaire capital of the world, followed by the Chinese mainland and Germany. China's Hong Kong ranks seventh.

Statistics show that the number of billionaires on the Chinese mainland currently stands at 157, 10 more than in the last year. Their fortune totals at US$384 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 1.1 percent.
