"In the new world economic order, it's a very open and daring concept. And it will increase interdependency in related countries and bring mutual benefits to them, especially those backward countries along the roads."

For a country like Denmark, which is home to the world's largest shipping company, the new Maritime Silk Road initiative and its accompanying free trade agreement express an extremely attractive message. Denmark hopes to tap the great potential that exists along both trade routes.

This is the fifth time that Ambassador Petersen has observed the meetings of the NPC and the CPPCC, the most important annual political event in China. It is formed by the Danish national bird— the swan— and a traditional Chinese totem — the dragon. On the emblem, the dragon is looking west while the swan is looking east. "The logo is in the color of gold, which is a sign of wealth and success in Chinese culture as well as a symbol of the current high level of Sino-Danish relations," said Petersen.

In the upcoming months, the Danish Embassy and governments from both sides will hold a series of activities to celebrate the event, including the "Open Embassy Day," "Green Cycling," a Viking ship exhibition in Suzhou in southeast China and a seminar on food safety and the green economy.
