Since it took effect on Jan. 1, 2020, the Foreign Investment Law has provided better protection for the rights and interests of foreign businesses. From 2017 to 2021, China shortened the negative lists for five consecutive years. The items restricted to foreign investors have been cut to 31 at the national level, and those for pilot free trade zones were cut to 27.
