Chinese Foundation for Prevention of STD and AIDS celebrated its 20th anniversary Friday in Beijing.

The foundation raised fund of about 10 million yuan (1.46 million U.S. dollars) on the ceremony for STD (sexually transmitted disease) and AIDS programs in China.

Donors included private sector, the largest being Coca-Cola China with 7.064 million yuan, and faith groups such as The Hong Kong Christian Churches Union.

The foundation also presented honorary rewards to individuals who had poured efforts into raising people's awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention, such as Pu Cunxin, a famous actor and a front-runner in HIV/AIDS publicity campaign.

The foundation was established in 1988, three years after HIV/AIDS spread to China, and was registered as a nation-wide social group as well as a public fund in 1989.

Since then, it has been raising fund for HIV/AIDS prevention and organizing forums, training sessions, and interventions into high-risk groups.

China has reported 319,877 cases of AIDS patients and people living with HIV, and 49,845 death cases, as of Oct. 31, according to statistics released on a national AIDS control meeting on November 24 in Shanghai.
