Beijing held the 2025 "Reading Beijing" cultural gala on Thursday at the Capital Library of China, highlighting the progress made over the event's 10-year history. This year's edition drew more than 3.3 million online and offline views.
The gala highlighted the city's booming reading culture. A children's performance inspired by Beijing's Central Axis heritage reviewed the highlights of a four-month reading program built around 10 cultural and tourism routes. The Beijing Reading Aloud Competition this year drew over 7,000 participants and extended its reach through various channels.
Beijing has also expanded access to public cultural services. The city announced its "Top 10 Reading Spaces" as part of its effort to build convenient reading hubs. Meanwhile, the Public Library Lecture Alliance brought expert-led talks into communities, reaching more than 2 million participants.
Over the past decade, "Reading Beijing" has evolved into a comprehensive platform that blends online content with offline activities. It now offers an integrated digital hub for events, lectures, and expert resources, supporting the city's vision of lifelong reading. The program has engaged more than 63 million participants since its launch, becoming a flagship cultural brand for the capital.
